Games like Travian in 2026
Travian is not dead. Travian Games still runs both versions, announced a 3x Kingdoms world starting 28 July 2026 (Kingdoms blog), and has published a schedule for more. So if you are looking for something else, it is probably not because the game went away. It is because of the Gold, or the 3am attacks, or because a normal server takes most of a year to finish.
That changes the useful answer. Which game to try next depends on which part of Travian you want to keep, so this page is sorted that way. Everything here was checked on 4 October 2026, and where we could not find a dated source for a game, we say so instead of guessing.
If you want the same game with a different publisher
The closest thing to Travian is Tribal Wars, which InnoGames launched in 2003. One village to start, nobles to take more, a world that eventually ends. If you liked the shape of Travian and are tired of the company running it, this is the obvious first try. Tribal Wars 2 is the newer version, and Grepolis, also InnoGames, swaps villages for Greek islands, with every army crossing water. We could not find a dated world opening for any of the three on 4 October, so open each game's current world list before you commit. A fresh world you can join on day one is worth more than a long history.
All of them are free with paid premium, the same model as Travian. If Gold is your problem, they will feel familiar in the wrong way.
If you want servers that end, but sooner
A Travian Legends server at normal speed runs for roughly 250 days before someone finishes the Wonder of the World. Faster servers exist, and Travian publishes the lengths itself (support.travian.com):
| Server speed | Roughly how long it runs |
|---|---|
| x1 | 250 days |
| x2 | 160 days |
| x3 | 95 days |
| x5 | 71 days |
| x10 | 35.5 days |
So the first alternative to Travian is a faster Travian. An x3 or x5 server keeps everything you know and cuts the commitment by more than half. The September Annual Special also runs on victory points rather than a Wonder, if the endgame was the part that wore you out.
Outside Travian, the oldest game built around short rounds is Planetarion. It is space, not villages, and it ticks once an hour, but the rhythm will feel familiar: a fixed round, a reset, everyone starts level. Round 119 opens for signups on 9 October 2026 and runs from 16 October to 4 December, so about seven weeks. It has been running rounds since 2000.
If you liked the building more than the war
Some Travian players were really there for the economy: fields, warehouses, getting the build queue right. Ikariam leans that way, with trade and island resources mattering more than raiding. Be aware of one thing: Gameforge announced server merges in spring 2026, and a merge usually means the population is shrinking. A new server was still listed for 18 September, so it is alive, just smaller than it was.
If you are ready to leave villages behind
Plenty of Travian players end up in space strategy. OGame opened a new universe on 2 October 2026 and is the biggest of them. Astro Empires turned 20 this year and launched a new server, Cosmos, on 26 September. Both run as long-lived universes with no fixed finish, which is the opposite of what most people leaving Travian are looking for. We compared the space games properly in games like OGame.
Legends or Kingdoms, if you just want to switch Travian
The two Travians are more different than the shared name suggests.
Legends is the original game. Big map, classic rules, and a Wonder of the World to finish on a normal server.
Kingdoms gives every player a role. Kings protect governors and governors pay kings tribute. It is also smaller and more structured. Its blog said in June 2026 that a new local 1x world opens about every 20 weeks (schedule post).
If Legends felt like you were a target for anyone with a bigger alliance, Kingdoms puts that relationship into the rules. If Kingdoms felt like homework, Legends is the looser game.

Galaro, which is ours
Galaro is a space strategy game we build and run, so take this section as the developer's description. It is last on purpose.
It was designed around three of the complaints above.
Rounds are short and the next one starts straight away. We call them eons. Our last one ran 26 days on half-hour ticks, from 5 September to 1 October 2026, and the next opened about 30 seconds after it ended. Eons so far have run between 6 and 26 days. The current one is set for 30.
There is nothing to buy. No store, no premium currency, no boosts. Every advantage comes from how you play that eon. That is how it is today, and we would say so here if it changed.
You do not need a sitter to sleep. Every commander picks a free eight-hour Night Shield window. If someone attacks you inside it and wins, their fleet can only load a quarter of the asteroids its hold would normally carry, and they take a quarter of the usual salvage. A big enough raid can still take its full share. It does not stop the attack or save your ships, and it takes four hours to switch on, so you cannot raise it the moment you see a fleet coming. You choose when you sleep, once.
We also learned the hard way about late joiners. Early on, a player who arrived in the middle of an eon got a large starting bonus, and in September one of them reached second place overnight. That rewarded showing up late over playing well, so we cut the bonus to at most one and a half times the normal start. Enough to get a foothold, not enough to pass someone who has been there since the first day.
Now the honest part. Galaro is new and small. In our last eon there were 12 human commanders among 92 on the scoreboard; computer opponents fill the rest of the galaxy. Alliances exist, but nobody has formed a real one yet. If what you loved about Travian was a 40-player alliance war, we cannot give you that today. If you want a shorter, fairer round you can play on your phone without setting an alarm, start here, and the guide explains the rules.
New to the words above? What is an MMORTS covers ticks, rounds and fleetsaving.
